Honey Locust

My bare feet sink into
the thick plush of the carpet
It is made of tens of thousands
of fuzzy caterpillars
I carefully step across the room
to examine the butterfly wallpaper
A single moth batters its soft body
against the single bulb
Through the window I can see
the honey locust
its limbs crowded with birds
waiting patiently
