Paraffin

The pane shattered and all the shards

swirled in the air and coalesced into

a shimmering replica of her body

The wind howled all around us

whipping my hair and clothes

and plucking shining slivers from

her glassy skin. I shielded my eyes

but when the gale diminished

my skin bristled with thousands

of fine bits of glass as fine as hairs

I lit a hurricane lamp and sat there

shivering as she hovered before me

like a chandelier, her cold body

catching the flame in every facet

until the kerosene burned away

and there was nothing left for us

to reflect but each other
